Έλληνας πανεπιστημιακός στην Προεδρία της Διεθνούς Ένωσης Ναυτιλιακών Οικονομολόγων (ΙΑΜΕ)


Τον Καθηγητή του Πανεπιστημίου Αιγαίου Θάνο Πάλλη εξέλεξε ως νέο Πρόεδρο η Διεθνής Ένωση Ναυτιλιακών Οικονομολόγων (IAME - International Association of Maritime Economist), κατά την διάρκεια του Ετήσιου Συνεδρίου της που ολοκληρώθηκε στη Μομπάσα, Κένυα.

H Διεθνής Ένωση Ναυτιλιακών Οικονομολόγων (ΙΑΜΕ) ιδρύθηκε το 1992 και σήμερα διαθέτει ως μέλη πανεπιστημιακούς, ερευνητές, και μελετητές της ναυτιλιακής οικονομικής, καθώς και ναυτικούς οικονομολόγους, από όλο τον κόσμο. Το ΙΑΜΕ συνδέεται με δύο κορυφαία επιστημονικά περιοδικά, το Maritime Policy & Management και το Maritime Economics & Logistics αντίστοιχα. Το ετήσιο συνέδριο του ΙΑΜΕ έχει πραγματοποιηθεί και στις πέντε ηπείρους, με την Αθήνα και το Οικονομικό Πανεπιστήμιο Αθηνών (ΟΠΑ) να ετοιμάζονται φιλοξενήσουν το προσεχές συνέδριο τον Ιούνιο 2019.




Ο Θάνος Πάλλης είναι καθηγητής οικονομικής και πολιτικής λιμένων, στο Τμήμα Ναυτιλίας και Επιχειρηματικών Υπηρεσιών του Πανεπιστημίου Αιγαίου, και συν-διευθύνει την διαδικτυακή πρωτοβουλία PortEconomics.eu. Έχει διατελέσει πανεπιστημιακός Υπότροφος στο Columbia University των ΗΠΑ, και γενικός γραμματέας της ένωσης μεσογειακών λιμένων κρουαζιέρας MedCruise – με την ερευνητική του δραστηριότητα σε θέματα παραχωρήσεων τερματικών λιμένων εμπορευματοκιβωτίων και κρουαζιέρας να έχουν βραβευτεί από το ΙΑΜΕ το 2008 και 2017 αντίστοιχα.


Αντιπρόεδροι του ΙΑΜΕ εκλέχθηκαν οι καθηγητές Michaël Dooms (Πανεπιστήμιο Βρυξελλών, Βέλγιο) και Jasmine Siu Lee Lam (Τεχνολογικό Πανεπιστήμιο Nanyang, Σιγκαπούρη), ενώ στο νέο Συμβούλιο του ΙΑΜΕ συμμετέχεί και ένας ακόμα Έλληνας πανεπιστημιακός, ο καθηγητής του Οικονομικού Πανεπιστημίου Αθηνών Μανώλης Καβουσσανός. Τα υπόλοιπα μέλη του Συμβουλίου είναι οι Michele Acciaro (Γερμανία), Roar Adland (Νορβηγία), Okan Duru (Σιγκαπούρη), Adolf Ng (Καναδάς), Theo Notteboom (Κίνα), Giovanni Satta (Ιταλία), Gordon Wilmsmeier (Κολομβία).

Ο Θάνος Πάλλης διαδέχεται στην Προεδρία των Dr. Jan Hoffman (UNCTAD), ο οποίοιος συμμετέχει στο νέο Συμβούλιο του ΙΑΜΕ ως επίτιμος πρόεδρος.

IAME elects President and Council for 2018-2020



IAME, the International Association of Maritime Economist, has elected Professor Thanos Pallis as its new President. The announcement is made following the conclusion of the election during the IAME 2018 Annual Conference held in Mombasa, Kenya, last week.

Established in 1992, IAME is the Association representing scholars interested in maritime economics, as well as maritime economist, from all over the world. The Association today has a membership spaning in all continents and is officially linked to two leading academic journals in the field: Maritime Policy & Management and Maritime Economics & Logistics. It has celebrated the IAME Conference, its annual flagship event, in all five continents, with IAME 2019 scheduled to take place in Athens, Greece.




Thanos Pallis is Professor of Port Economics and Policy at the Department of Shipping, Trade and Transport, University of the Aegean, Greece, and co-director of PortEconomics. A Fulbright scholar at Columbia University, NY, he has worked in port and maritime related projects in different continents, while he has been secretary general of the association of Meditteranean cruise ports, MedCruise.


IAME also elected its new Council for 2018-2020, with Professor Michaël Dooms (University of Brussels, Belgium) and Professor Jasmine Siu Lee Lam (Nanyang Technology University, Singapore), elected as IAME Vice-Presidents, and the full synthesis of the Council being as follows:

Commenting on his election Thanos Pallis said “IAME has been the Association providing a most valuable platform to scholars and economists interested in the maritime world. It has been an effective network for all, driven by its members and those that have taken the responsibility to voluntarily serve the Association as Council members and presidents. From that perspective I am sincerely honored to serve as its next president. Along with the Council members we will continue the work to make IAME an even more treasured Association in the coming years.”

Thanos Pallis replaces Dr. Jan Hoffman (UNCTAD), who has served as President since 2014, and will continue to serve the IAME Council as President Emeritus. Commenting on Jan Hoffman leadership Thanos Pallis said, “On behalf of all IAME members I would like to express our sincere thanks and appreciation to Jan, as well as to previous presidents, for their work, inspiration, and commitment to make IAME more dynamic than ever.”
